Dear Reader,

Important update on mandatory BIS Certification for Indian manufacturers and importers of

  • 1.) Copper Wire Rods for Electrical Applications
  • 2.) Copper Rods and Bars for Electrical Purposes
  • 3.) Copper strip for electrical purposes
  • 4.) Copper rods and bars for general engineering purposes
  • 5.) Solid drawn copper and copper alloy tubes for condensers and heat exchangers
  • 6.) Solid drawn copper tubes for general engineering purposes
  • 7.) Copper Tubes for plumbing Specification
  • 8.) Wrought Copper Tubes for Refrigeration and AirConditioning Purposes
  • 9.) Copper wires for general engineering purposes

Department for Promotion of Industry & Internal Trade ( Ministry of Commerce and Industry ) has prepared a Quality Control Order in respect of the above said productsin consultation with BIS in order to bring it under mandatory BIS certification keeping in view the human safety and for ensuring the optimum quality of product. The QCO for these 9 products is attached below:

QCO Notification for Copper Wire Rods for Electrical Applications (IS 12444: 2020), Copper Rods and Bars for Electrical Purposes (IS 613: 2000),Copper strip for electrical purposes (IS 1897: 2008), Copper rods and bars for general engineering purposes (IS 4171: 1983), Solid drawn copper and copper alloy tubes for condensers and heat exchangers (IS 1545: 1994), Solid drawn copper tubes for general engineering purposes (IS 2501: 1995), Copper Tubes for plumbing Specification (IS 14810: 2000), Wrought Copper Tubes for Refrigeration and AirConditioning Purposes (IS 10773: 1995) and Copper wires for general engineering purposes (IS 4412: 1981) is as follows:

The notification was released on 25th April 2024 and it will be implemented from:

19th October 2024 for Medium and Large enterprises (Annual turnover 50< crores).

19th January 2025 for Small enterprises (Annual Turnover between 5 to 50 crores).

19th April 2025 for Micro enterprises (Annual turnover of 5> crores).
