Important update on mandatory BIS Certification for Indian manufacturers and importers of

• 1.) Drums, Large Open Top
• 2.) Drums Large, Fixed Ends - Grade A Drums
• 3.) Drums, Large, Fixed Ends – Grade B Drums
• 4.) Steel Drums (Galvanized and Ungalvanized)
• 5.) Bitumen Drums
• 6.) Square Tins for Solid Products
• 7.) Square Tins - 15 Kilograms or litre for Ghee, Vanaspati, Edible Oils and Bakery Shortenings

Department for Promotion of Industry & Internal Trade ( Ministry of Commerce and Industry ) has prepared a Quality Control Orders in respect of the above said products in consultation with BIS in order to bring it under mandatory BIS certification keeping in view the human safety and for ensuring the optimum quality of product. The QCO for these 7 products is attached below:

QCO Notification for Drums, Large Open Top (IS 13997:2014), Drums Large, Fixed Ends - Grade A Drums (IS 1783 (Part 1) :2014), Drums, Large, Fixed Ends – Grade B Drums (IS 1783 (Part 2) :2014), Steel Drums (Galvanized and Ungalvanized)(IS 2552:1989), Bitumen Drums(IS 3575:1993), Square Tins for Solid Products (IS 916:2000) and Square Tins - 15 Kilograms or litre for Ghee, Vanaspati, Edible Oils and Bakery Shortenings (IS 10325:2000) is as follows:

The notification was released on 17th October 2023 and it will be implemented from:

17th April 2024 for Medium and Large enterprises (Annual turnover 50< crores).

17th July 2024 for Small enterprises (Annual Turnover between 5 to 50 crores).

17thOctober 2024 for Micro enterprises (Annual turnover of 5> crores).
