Important update on mandatory BIS Certification for Indian manufacturers and importers of

• 1.) Appliances for stationary storage type electric water heaters
• 2.) Appliances for electric instantaneous water heaters
• 3.) Electric Immersion Water Heaters
• 4.) Stationary storage type electric water heaters
• 5.) Mini domestic water heater for use with piped natural gas (PNG)

Department for Promotion of Industry & Internal Trade ( Ministry of Commerce and Industry ) has prepared a Quality Control Orders in respect of the above said products in consultation with BIS in order to bring it under mandatory BIS certification keeping in view the human safety and for ensuring the optimum quality of product. The QCO for these 5 products is attached below:

QCO Notification for for Appliances for stationary storage type electric water heaters (IS 302 (Part 2/Sec 21): 2018), Appliances for electric instantaneous water heaters (IS 302 (Part 2/Sec 35): 2017), Electric Immersion Water Heaters (IS 368: 2014), Stationary storage type electric water heaters (IS2082: 2018) and Mini domestic water heater for use with piped natural gas (PNG) (IS 17150: 2019) is as below:

The notification was released on 5th March 2024 and it will be implemented from:

5th September 2024 for Medium and Large enterprises (Annual turnover 50< crores).

5th December 2024 for Small enterprises (Annual Turnover between 5 to 50 crores).

5th March 2025 for Micro enterprises (Annual turnover of 5> crores).
