Important update on mandatory BIS Certification for Indian manufacturers and importers of

• 1.) Legal metrology - Material measure of length - Woven metallic and glass fibre tape measures
• 2.) Legal metrology - Material measures of length - Steel tape measures

Department for Promotion of Industry & Internal Trade ( Ministry of Commerce and Industry ) has prepared a Quality Control Orders in respect of the above said products in consultation with BIS in order to bring it under mandatory BIS certification keeping in view the human safety and for ensuring the optimum quality of product. The QCO for these 2 products is attached below:

QCO Notification for Legal metrology - Material measure of length - Woven metallic and glass fibre tape measures (IS 1269 (Part 1):1997) and Legal metrology - Material measures of length - Steel tape measures (IS 1269 (Part 2):1997 is as follows:

The notification was released on 21st November 2023 and it will be implemented from:

21st May 2024 for Medium and Large enterprises (Annual turnover 50< crores).

21st August 2024 for Small enterprises (Annual Turnover between 5 to 50 crores).

21st November 2024 for Micro enterprises (Annual turnover of 5> crores).
